/ Electrical rewiring
Rewiring Your Home
Rewiring your home is not an easy project. Its a messy job which involves chasing brickwork, lifting floors and accessing basements and attics. However its also a very important job which ensures the safety of your home and its occupants. Rewiring ensures your install complies with the latest British standard, BS7671.
All cables are concealed under floors, in attic space or within the walls of the property where possible. These cables will leave the consumer unit and be terminated at every socket, light or point within that circuit. Routing these circuits involves lifting floorboards and chiselling the internal walls. Any damage is then repaired by our experienced plasterers, should you wish to add this option to your quote. External wiring falls under different regulations, we use different cable for example, when supplying your garage.
17th Edition Requirements
The 17th Edition, released in January 2008, is the latest edition of BS7671, and became effective for all installations designed after 1 July 2008. This amendment provides the regulations in which all practising electricians should abide by when working on electrical installations.
An important introduction is the use of RCDs on ALL circuits. Your new installation will be equipped with a “dual RCD” consumer unit. From this unit we install wiring for ring mains circuits, lighting circuits, heating circuits, cooker and shower circuits. We also install an earth connection at the gas mains, water mains and occasionally at your boiler. We also recommend installing mains powered smoke alarms with battery back up.
Additional circuits can be accommodated such as garages, extractor fans, external sockets, external lighting and storage heaters amongst others.
Testing and Certification
On completion of all work we are required to carry out testing and issue certification. The tests ensure that the cables installed are fit for purpose and comply with regulations. Amongst other tests, we test for continuity of each cable and functionality of each device. The test results must comply with the parameters specified within the 17th edition wiring regulations. When we are satisfied with the results we store them on file and issue your certificate on receipt of payment. We can issue certificates via email or paper form.
Certificates guarantee our install and should be valid for the duration of the installation providing no alterations are undertaken.
